Savannah, GA
Places to Visit:
Downtown Sights: Stroll along the streets to see southern sights like Forsyth Park, Cathedral Basilica of St John the Baptist, Colonial Park Cemetery, and the numerous squares.
Savannah National Wildlife Refuge: See nature and wildlife from the comfort of your vehicle as you drive along the 4-mile long drive.
Bonaventure Cemetery: The cemetery is more than just a burial site - the tree-filled grounds blends nature, art, and history together. You will find beautiful statues amongst famous figures buried here.
Tybee Island: Enjoy dipping your toes into the ocean at the beach, taking in the views from Tybee Island Light Station & Museum, seeing the exhibits at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, or just munching at the different food options.
Old Town Trolley Tours of Savannah: This is a great way to explore the city with their Hop In Hop Off tour! With a baby this wasn’t the best choice for us, but would have chosen this to get the most out of our day of exploring if we could.
Fort Pulaski National Monument: Visit one of the forts built to protect the south and saw a lot of use during the Civil War.
Some family-friendly options include UGA Marine Education Center & Aquarium, Oatland Island Wildlife Center, Savannah Children’s Museum, or Jepson Center & Telfair Children’s Art Museum
Where to Eat:
Mirabelle Savannah: Local coffee shop offering a variety of drinks and gourmet waffles.
Leopold’s Ice Cream: Founded in 1919 by two Greek immigrant brothers, the original recipes are still being used.
Savannah’s Candy Kitchen & River Street Sweets: Both places offer most of the same treats, including pralines, a true southern delight.
Byrd’s Famous Cookies: Try each flavor of these tiny, but mighty delicious cookies with a variety box you pack.
Vinnie Van GoGo’s: Enjoy a HUGE slice of cheese, pepperoni, or their daily special slice for lunch.
Crystal Beer Parlor: Have you ever wanted a soft pretzel the size of a steering wheel? Well look no further. We also tried their seafood platter with shrimp, flounder, fried oysters, and baked deviled crab. The dish was good, but their other plates looked better.
Treylor Park: Treylor Park has five different establishments from their restaurant, diner, and pizza party. The menus include crazy combinations that surprisingly work well together.
* Here is a few other restaurants we were unable to visit: Goose Feathers Cafe & Bakery, The Paris Market (Savannah), Little Duck Diner, Starland Yard, The Wyld, Flying Fish Bar & Grill, Brochu’s Family Tradition, The Public Kitchen & Bar, and Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room.
